FAQs

What is Plastic Free? What does this all mean?

As the Worlds first coffee company to launch a plastic free range of ground and beans coffees, we’ve put together a list of everything you need to know, which can be found here.

Where does your coffee come from?

Our coffee comes from a variety of regions, but mainly from South and Central America. For more information on the origin of each product, please refer to our individual product pages.

How do I make your coffee?

Instant – Use one heaped teaspoon and simply add hot water off the boil. Add sugar and milk to taste.

Ground – for use in a cafetière or French press: Use 2 tablespoons per cup. Add water just off the boil, stir, then brew for 4 minutes. Plunge, pour and enjoy.

Beans: Grind, then follow the same instructions for our ground coffee (above).

Coffee bags – Add freshly boiled water to the coffee bag and stir. Leave to brew for 3-4 minutes, squeeze and remove.

Iced coffee: These products are perfect for drinking on-the-go. Simply remove the seal and enjoy!

N.B. Each product will have detailed usage instructions on the back of pack.

What does your strength guide mean?

3 – Mild
4 – Rich
5 – Strong
6 – Intense

What do all your certifications mean?

Which of your products are Fairtrade?

Our ranges of Grounds, Beans, and Iced Coffee are 100% Fairtrade. In addition to this, our Organic Rich Roast, Smooth Colombia, Delicious Decaf and Barista Gold Instants are all Fairtrade, as well as our Colombian coffee bags.

Which of your products are Organic?

All our grounds and beans are Organic, bar the Delicious Decaf. In addition, our entire Iced Coffee range is Organic, as well as our Rich Roast instant coffee.

Which of your products are Rainforest-Alliance certified?

Our Italian-style and Americano coffee bags are RA, as well as our Classic Italiano and Americano Instants.

Is your coffee Arabica? What is Arabica?

The majority of our coffee is made from 100% Arabica beans, however certain products – such as our Intense Espresso range – are a mix of Arabica and Robusta, as this is much better suited to an espresso blend. Arabica coffee has less caffeine than Robusta, but almost twice the amount of lipids and naturally occurring sugars, meaning it often tastes a lot better.

How much caffeine is in one cup of your coffee?

We don’t typically measure the caffeine content of our products as it can vary dramatically based on brewing time. Coffee is an organic product and does not always have homogenous caffeine levels. As such, even when the recipe and roasting profile is constant we see variances in the caffeine level.

That said, our lighter roasted coffees will contain more caffeine, as the longer the beans are roasted, the less caffeine they have.

What decaffeination process do you use?

Our Delicious Decaf Ground and Instant are both decaffeinated naturally through a process known as CO2 Decaffeination.

The green coffee beans are soaked in water and then are put into an extracting vessel. Pressurised liquid carbon dioxide is then pushed through them, gently drawing out the caffeine. This extraction step is repeated several times, until the residual caffeine content is at or below the legal maximum level of 0.1%.

How do you maintain quality?

Everything possible is done to make sure our products leave the plant in perfect condition.

We have been assured that due to the stringent checks in place across our manufacturing teams, any damage will most likely occur after the product leaves the plant. This is due to the fact it has to undergo further transportation from the factory to the store and then the store to your home.
