Amitigra Foundation
Set in the Honduras rainforest at 2270m, height-wise La Tigra National Park is close to paradise. But for the 100 communities who live in the park, life can be everything but a dream. Simple things like drinking water are hard to obtain while poverty is spiraling, fuelled by recent natural disasters. Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the world and help is urgently needed.
The Amitigra Foundation is a charity that not only helps conserve the wildlife and natural beauty of La Tigra National Park, it is also taking positive steps to improve the standard of living for the people that live there.
Because the Amitigra Foundation has established a trusting relationship with the communities, any help provided is far more likely to reach those who really need it. For Percol this was a key consideration in choosing this organisation to work with.
Percol has sourced a premium quality Fairtrade Honduras coffee from the Comisajul Cooperative in La Tigra National Park. For each pack of coffee sold, Percol has pledged to make a donation to the Amitigra Foundation.
The money will help finance an ongoing project to bring a continual supply of fresh drinking water to the local communities within the park. Percol will be the first commercial organisation to support the Foundation and its work.
Percol’s commitment to Fairtrade ensures that local farmers and their families get a proper price for their coffee - plus a premium to spend on community projects.
People not only feel good about themselves, they feel empowered to better care for their families and land – and take control of their destinies.
