Story Of Percol

woman holding a cup

We’ve recently teamed up with the Co-op and Centrepoint to donate Percol coffee to homeless young people across the UK, through our
#CupForCup campaign.

The mission: to match every cup sold in-store with a giveaway target of 250,000 cups to Centrepoint hubs in London, Manchester, Yorkshire and other areas of the country.

Thanks to you, we’re proud to announce that we’ve reached our target. Very soon we’ll be sending out a special Percol parcel full of our distinctive blend of delicious Fairtrade coffee. And that’s not all: to help distribute the ¼ million cups, we’re also sending some virtuous volunteers from our HQ to offer a helping hand.

Centrepoint is a fantastic UK charity, which every year supports over 9000 young people aged 16-25 who are at risk or are homeless. They help young people find a safe place to live, provide them direct access to health services, and with the help of a support worker, create an individual plan to support each young person’s transition into independent living and employment. We’re launching the World’s Most Sustainable Coffee Shop in London and we want you to join us. From April 18th to April 20th, we’ll be setting up shop in Old Street Station for a jam-packed, caffeine fuelled couple of days, with a finale event hosted by Time Out. Spoiler alert: espresso martinis galore.

Our daily coffee habits are far from sustainable

It’s time to make a change. There are 2.5 billion single-use coffee cups thrown away every year in the UK and we want to help you make a difference. We’ll only have reusable cups in the shop, which will be available to buy. Once you buy a forever cup, you’ll be able to get free refills for the rest of the pop-up.

We’re not stopping there though, even if you bring your own Keep Cup, you’ll get a free cuppa too.

Not only will we be highlighting ways you can make changes to your daily routine, but also showcasing the importance of ethically sourcing your beans and how you can be more mindful, from realising just how far your beans have come to learning how recycled coffee grinds can be used.

The beans we’ll be using are our Next Generation Coffee beans, sourced directly through a project that educates, trains and supports the younger generation of coffee farmers in Colombia and Tanzania. You’ll get a chance to see some of these farmers yourselves, by trying our VR glasses in the shop.

These beans will also be available for you to grind yourself and take home with you. Our award-winning Nespresso compatible, plant-based – which means fully compostable – capsules will be available to buy there too.

Find us!

We’ll have loads more quirks and activities in the shop too, so come and say hello, have a cuppa and make a change.

Where? Unit 8, Old Street Roundabout, London
When? 18th & 19th April: 7.30am-6pm and 20th April: 7.30am-4.30pm, followed by a Time Out event (get your tickets here!)

Story Of Percol

Right from the start, we wanted to bring the best tasting coffee from around the world to the UK while always making sure that we give back to the farmers and environments that grow our delicious beans.

For over 30 years, we’ve built great relationships with coffee producers around the world, from Central and South America to Indonesia and Vietnam, and we spend over 150 days a year at the farms getting to know the farmers and their land. Our long-term approach means that our brilliant producers, old and new, receive the support they need to continue to grow our wonderful coffee.

We are always happy to have a chat so if you’ve got any questions, get in touch with one of the team here.
